DSIMS Economics Club (DEC) and Finance Club of DSIMS (FinDS) jointly organised Post Budget Session on 11 February, 2017. The entire discussion of this session was themed around The Mathematics of Union Budget. The Keynote Speaker of the session was Dr. Atindra Sen. An IAS of1978 Batch (MP Cadre), Dr Sen is MA and Ph.D from Boston University, Fellow in the Special Program on Urban and Regional Studies in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Director General at Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Advisor Corporate Affairs, Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Senior Advisor India for Transnational Strategy Group, Washington, DC. The keynote speech of Dr Sen. was mainly focused on the dynamics of macro fundamentals and the chain of causation behind the movement of the critical economic variables.
There was an interactive Panel Discussion moderated by in-house Economist. Along with Dr Sen, the eminent Panellists were Ms Shweta Agrawal, CFO Paragon Partners; Mr Umesh Kolapkar, CA & Independent Consultant and Mr Indraneel Sengupta, Global Business Strategist. The eminent panellists discussed the implications of several issues of the Wish list of Union Budget 2017. Starting from the targeted Fiscal and revenue numbers, tax structure rationalisation, GST, NPA to the proposed Start up incentivisation from the angle of PE/VC sectors, FPIs and also Transfer Pricing issues have been deliberated by the panellists. The students took a lot of interest in this session by placing intriguing & thought provoking questions to the panellists. Listening to the expert opinion of erudite panellists on the different facets of Budget 2017was an enriching learning experience for DSIMS students. The Panel with a galactic combination of business and government, extraordinary statesmen and captains of the Indian industries whose expertise on the Union Budget and its implications on the stakeholders of our country chartered the event of our Post Budget Economic Analysis to greater heights.
