MBA as a special program emerged in western countries in early 20th Century to enhance managerial skills of white collar employees. There was no formal program offered to senior level executives till 1900 to enhance decision making and project management skills.
When it was felt that the need for senior executives who were managing team of fellow colleagues to achieve specific goals or milestones, a few thought leaders combined courses of different fields like accounting, industrial psychology, production management, statistics, operations management, marketing in order to sharpen their managerial and leadership skill. That’s how formal program of management studies emerged in early 1900.
