Knowledge Resource Centre

Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC) aims to be one of the best Business School libraries in Mumbai. Its ever growing collection includes of some of the best resources on contemporary management thought. It includes books, journals, Magazines, newspapers in different
disciplines of management and allied sciences. It also subscribe to good number of bibliographic, statistical and full text databases in digital format in order to meet the changing information needs of faculty members and students.

KRC is centrally air conditioned library, it is brightly lit with comfortable seating capacity of 100 users. It has Wi-Fi facility and all the e-resources are accessible in entire campus as well as remotely too with login passwords.

KRC is automated with Koha integrated library management software (ILMS) and users can access the catalog (OPAC) to search and reserve the books and other print resources of the library. All the books are classified with the help of DDC and are arranged in stack area subject-wise for easy access. It’s an open access library and all the books are barcoded.

KRC Library is working from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 A.M. TO 8:00 P.M and remains closed on Public Holidays. During the exam time it opens for long hours.

About KRC Library

With generous donations offered by Shri Murlidhar Karwa, the institute has set up a commendable Knowledge Resource Centre, which has become a centre of excellence in collection building with high quality resources for post graduate education and research activities. The library has been named after Shri Murlidhar Karwa as ‘Muralidhar Karwa Knowledge Resource Centre’.

KRC aims to be one of the best Business and Management Science libraries in the country. Its ever growing collection includes some of the best resources on contemporary management thought, and it includes nearly 100 journals in different disciplines of management and allied sciences. It also subscribes to good number of bibliographic, statistical and full text databases in digital format in order to meet the changing information
needs of faculty members and students. It continuously tries to add all documents as needed by the curriculum and aims to become a single hub to meet the needs of academic information.

Every day around 150 to 175 students visit the library to fulfill their academic requirements. Library staff tries their best to help users by providing the required information.

Suggestion Box: Students can drop their recommendations for books and any other suggestions in this box kept near book counter. The suggestion box opens on every Saturday at 2-00 p.m.

KRC Library Committee

Library has a advisory committee consists of the Director as a Chairperson, Area Heads of the Departments, Librarian and others included in the committee as an when suggested by the Director.

Following responsibilities are undertaken by the committee:

  • To allocate appropriate budget to procure resources to meet the curricula of courses
  • Formulation of rules and regulations for the users of the library
  • To ensure relevant collection of books, journals and other information sources to support courses offered in the college
  • To advise for the implementation of the library policies prepared by the Librarian
  • To review and finalize the proposals of the librarian for the development of the library
  • To offer library extension services to the students and teachers.

Circulation of Resources

Access to the DSIMS library is restricted to faculty, students and staff of DSIMS who are in possession of current valid identification card [ID] issued by DSIMS. The Circulation policy of library expects library users to adhere to following guidelines.

Renewals :

Renewals are allowed only when there is no outstanding claim against it, and also if there is no demand from the other users.

Reservations :

  • A faculty/staff/student can reserve one book at a time.
  • The reserved books will be kept on ‘hold‘only for 24 hrs. If the book is not collected within the stipulated time, the reservation stands cancelled and move to the next person who has the 2nd reservation for the same book.

Period of borrowing during vacation :

To enable the students to make maximum use of the books during vacation, the period for borrowing books is extended as per the discretion of the librarian.

New / Reference Books :

  • Latest books are displayed in the New arrivals ‘section for 15 days. These books can be borrowed on the expiry of display period.
  • Reference book, rare books, newspapers etc., will not be issued out of the library.

Late Fee :

If a library document is not returned on or before the due date & time, then it will attract late fee as mentioned below to maintain the disciplinary system:

Loss or Damage to Library Books:

  • When Books are issued, students should check the pages of the issued books and if pages are found missing, they should report the same to the Library Staff before leaving the circulation counter. On returning the books, if pages are found missing, then the last borrower of the book shall be held accountable for the missing pages and shall accordingly be fined.
  • Students are required to handle books and reading material very carefully. Marking on library books with pencil or ink, tearing the pages or spoiling the same in any other way will be viewed very seriously. In such cases, the last reader will be held responsible unless he/she shows to the Library staff, at the time of barrowing, that the book had been previously marked or damaged. In the event of damage of any kind, the last reader will be liable to compensate for damage or Book/s will have to be replaced.
  • In case a Reader loses a book he/ she should replace the book. If the book cannot be replaced by the borrower, the current price of the book will be paid by the borrower. If the book is not available in the market then the borrower has to pay the double amount of the book price. (As newer editions costs more)
  • Membership card is non-transferable. Students must not lend their Readers Ticket to any other students to borrow books from the Library. Library facilities will be withdrawn for students misusing cards.
  • No Due Certificate will be issued to students only after he/ she has returned all the Library books and cleared all library dues.
  • First year students should get their Reader’s Ticket issued from the library by the prescribed date. No Reader’s Ticket will be issued to any student after the prescribed date. However, only in special cases or genuine circumstances, the Reader’s Ticket will be issued to the students after obtaining the Librarian’s permission.
  • In case a student loses his/ her Reader’s Ticket, then the student should report the loss of ticket immediately to the Librarian and apply for a duplicate card by paying Rs. 50/- per ticket.

Book Bank Facility:

  • Book bank is a separate facility of library having collection on course related text books.
  • This facility is extended only for MMS students, who are economically backward.
  • Membership to the Book Bank will be granted on completing the prescribed application form and submitting necessary documents i.e. Parents income certificate to the admin department.
  • Every year this facility is extended only to 5 students on first come first serve basis.
  • Students are given prescribed text books against their cards for the entire semester and they have to return the books within two (2) days immediately after the semester examinations, otherwise they will be barred from availing the facility for the next term. In case of final term, their certificates will be held up till the dues are cleared.
  • For late return of books borrowers will be charged Rs.10 fine per day/ book.
  • If any books are lost or damaged or mutilated then borrower has to replace the book, or need to pay the current price of the book. Also writing with pencil or ink anywhere in the book is strictly forbidden. If any such thing has been noticed, then the student is liable to replace the book.

KRC Rules & Regulations

  • Members should have their Identity Card and Library Card whenever they visit the library.
  • Members should keep their bags in the property counter only. They are advised NOT to keep any valuable in the bag.
  • Members should issue the books on his/her Library Tickets.
  • Members are requested to return all the books in time.
  • Reference Books should be used within library premises; they cannot be taken out of the library without permission. If found Rs.50/- fine will be charged per day.
  • Maintain Silence in the library, should keep their Mobile phones switched off as & when they visit the library. Else a fine of Rs. 100/- will be charged.
  • Members should not bring any eatables and drinks inside the library
  • Members should use the library computers / Network only for academic purposes * Rules and regulations of the KRC are applicable to all the members.

KRC Library Services

Reference Service:

Reference service is a personalized service extended to library clientele to assist them in finding the required information from the library resources, use of online catalogue, databases and other sources. This service in addition to providing assistance also addresses questions of users regarding finding brief information such as addresses, statistics, phone numbers, getting articles from other libraries etc. The library staff also
suggests appropriate online and offline resources for consultation of library users based on their areas of research and teaching.

Bibliographic Service:

On the request of clientele, library provides bibliographic service by preparing a bibliography of articles, books and other resources available on their topic of research/teaching. This will help them in finding out relevant information.

Current Awareness Service:

In order to keep the library clientele abreast about latest developments in the field of management science and allied subjects, library provides current awareness service in the form of e-alerts informing about latest articles, books, news items, blog posts, tools etc over
email.

User Orientation:

User’s orientation is provided to new library users such as students and faculty members as and when they join the institute. The orientation programme provides overall overview of the library, its services and resources, use of catalogue, location of resources etc to enable new
library users make effective use of the library and its resources.

Literature Search / Inter-library loan:

Library has established contacts with different libraries to meet the varied information needs of library clientele. Library procures the resources which are not available in its own collection required for the clientele from other libraries on inter library loan.

Membership:

Apart from providing membership to its regular faculty members, students and staff KRC also extends membership facility to DSIMS Alumnae members and visiting faculty members.

Book Bank:
