On 11 November, 2016, DSIMS organized a panel discussion on Impact of Demonetization. The Panel of Experts were Dr Ashok Nag, Ex Advisor to RBI, COO of Financial Technologies; Dr Sharad Kumar, Dean Academics & Research, and Dr Sumana Chaudhuri, Professor of Economics.
Dr Sharad’s inaugurating speech covered the macro impact of Demonitization on the three parameters, like- money supply, inflation and growth.
Keynote speaker Dr A K Nag talked about the different dimensions, benefits and the challenges of Demonetization. He opined that in the short run there will be negative effect and GDP will fall by 1-2%. But in the long run with the reduction of deficit along with the able governance the economy will show positive sign.
Dr Sumana brought forth some comparable international scenario which establishes the fact that there is a worldwide convergence on the idea of Demonetization to stop terror financing and bring more digitized transparency.
Students took a lot of interest in the session. The session was quite informative and interactive. It infuses in the cognitive minds of young DSIMSians an understanding of macro dynamics of the large scale economic system.
