Third Annual Convocation of DSIMS

Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies (DSIMS) held its Third Annual Convocation for the award of diplomas to PGDM Class of 2013-15 on Saturday 9th May 2015. The ceremony also included handing over of Degrees conferred by University of Mumbai to the MMS Class of 2012-14.

The impressive function was held in the imaginatively decorated Durgadevi Saraf Hall, in the presence of a distinguished audience %u2013 trustees, special invitees, family and friends of graduating students, Faculty and Staff.
The programme started with the academic procession lead by Registrar, Chairman, Chief Guest, Director and Dean followed by the faculty members of DSIMS with great cheers and applause by the guests and students.
The Chief Guest for the convocation, Dr. Srikumar Banerjee is a distinguished nuclear scientist.

After the dignitaries on the dias were introduced to the assembled gathering, Dr C Babu, Director of DSIMS presented the Director%u2019s Report. He referred to the moulding of excellent managers at DSIMS through the successful execution of well-crafted academic and non-academic programs. He also reported on the vibrant industry-institute interface through multiple guest lectures, industry visits, conclaves, seminars, workshops and colloquiums; visits of renowned professors to DSIMS under the international linkage initiative; international and rural immersions; MDPs and FDPs conducted and research papers submitted by Faculty.
This was followed by a memorable and beautifully orchestrated ceremony in which 53 graduating students of the PGDM Class of 2013-15 were introduced to the Chief Guest Dr Srikumar Banerji by the Program Chairperson Prof Kusum Pawar and Diplomas were awarded to them by Dr Banerji in the presence of Mr Ashok Saraf and Dr C Babu.

Immediately thereafter, 118 graduating students of the MMS Class of 2012-14 were introduced to the dignitaries by the Program Chairperson Prof Sharmila Bonnerjee and Degrees conferred by the University of Mumbai were ceremoniously handed over to them by the Chairman Mr Ashok Saraf, Director Dr C Babu and Dean Dr Sharad Kumar.

The MBA Oath was then administered to the graduating students by the Dean Dr Sharad Kumar. This was followed by the ceremonious unveiling of the DSIMS Alumni Directory by Mr Ashok Saraf and the other dignitaries.
There was enthusiastic applause and cheering as the awards in the different categories were then presented – the Academic Excellence Awards for both PGDM and MMS Programs, the Special Achievements/Initiative Awards, the Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards were presented.

The Valedictorian address was delivered by Mr Saurabh Agrawal, graduating student from the PGDM Class of 2013-15 expressing the sentiments and gratitude of his fellow graduating students.

In his address, Mr Ashok Saraf, Chairman of DSIMS and President of Rajasthani Sammelan, spoke about the seven-decade long heritage of the Rajasthani Sammelan in the field of education, his plans for the institution dedicated to the memory of Shrimati Durgadevi Saraf as also the resolve and commitment of the members of the Trust towards crafting DSIMS into an enduring institution of repute through investment in global best practices.

Finally, the Convocation Address was delivered by Dr Srikumar Banerjee, Homi Bhabha Chair Professor at BARC Mumbai, Chancellor, Central University of Srinagar, Kashmir and Chairman, Board of Governors. IIT Kharagpur. Dr Banerjee is currently holding Distinguished Visiting Professor positions at Indian Institute of Science Bangalore and at University of Delhi. He delivered a inspiring speech exhorting the graduating students to rise up to the challenges of the future in the areas of energy conservation, food security, healthcare and education. He spoke about the need to continuously remain relevant while at the same time remaining true to a fundamental and deeply ingrained value system.?

The Convocation Ceremony ended with a formal Vote of Thanks by the PGDM Program Chairperson Prof Kusum Pawar and announcement of the closure of proceedings.
