Meet the Celebrity

The guest session by Mr. D. Sivanandan, Former Director General of Police, Maharashtra was organized under the banner of Meet the Celebrity on December 18, 2018 at 11.45 a.m. at Durgadevi Saraf Institute of Management Studies. He is also the Mentor for “Roti Bank”, A Not for Profit organization.
Dr. Narayan Iyer, CEO & National Coordinator, Indian Development Foundation (IDF) was also invited as a Special Guest for the event.

Mr. Sivanandhan is one of India’s most well-known and highly regarded IPS officers. His career spanned multiple high-profile postings over 35 years and he is known for his use of strategy & intelligence to uphold the rule of law. He served as an active member of the special task force in the National Security Council Secretariat; he helped in restructuring India’s internal and external national security provisions. During his tenure he was involved in crushing a major part of the underworld and helped establishing training centers, schools, canteens, gymnasiums and officers’ club- all with state of the art infrastructure. He was also responsible for providing the youth of the city an online portal for better communication.

Prof. Kusum Pawar welcomed Mr. Sivanandan and introduced him to the first year MMS students of DSIMS. He started his session by reminiscing his experiences as an Economics Professor initially and then about his stint as The Director General of Police. He shared that his life has been like a roller coaster ride once he joined the police force.

His session was highly invigorating as he shared the lessons drawn from inspirational leaders like Ratan Tata, A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Mother Teresa and many others. He touched upon the topics of leadership and shared the seven secrets of success viz., Vision, Passion, Courage, Character, Self-belief, Competence and Discipline. He even talked about canvassing for community in general by means of establishment of Roti Bank and his contribution towards policemen’s families and their health by means of building schools and healthcare facilities for them.

He also spoke about the difference between successful and unsuccessful people in the session. He mentioned, what successful people should focus on and what to avoid. The modalities of Roti Bank were also explained by him. He ended his session with encouragement to the students for joining the police force and make a difference to the society.

Towards the latter half of the session Dr. Narayan Iyer acknowledged and appreciated DSIMS as one of the most valued partners of IDF. Towards end of the session certificate distribution ceremony was organized by Dr. Sarika Jain to felicitate the students for their contribution towards ISR (Institute Social Responsibility) activities like %u2013 Kerala Relief Drive, Blood donation camp and Beach cleaning drive. The students were felicitated by Mr. Sivanandan. He gifted the college library two copies of his book, ‘Chanakya’s 7 Secrets of Leadership’ which is a bestseller.

Mr. Sivanandan was felicitated with a memento by Dr. C. Babu, Director, DSIMS as a token of gratitude.
